Letter 18: A list of NA options that have upped the game! - A Dry January Series
Rogue Humans is a weekly newsletter digging into the challenges of life in the modern world of work.
I am in the midst of Dry (and very very cold here in Minnesota) January, which was intentional on a few different counts. I’ve been thinking a lot about habits and kneejerk responses to stress. And honestly, I feel like I’ve been observing some very interetsing stuff for myself.
These past few weeks have also given me a lot of time to play around with NA alternatives!
The non-alcoholic cocktail game is AMAZING these days.
Long gone are the days of your dad’s O’Douls (although I was told they’re actually quite good!); there are a PLETHORA of options out there today that are truly fantastic.
A caveat about my tasting preferences before sharing my suggestions:
I love:
dark, bitter flavors (dark chocolate, black coffee)
tart things that are very light on sugar
I don’t like:
anything super citrus-forward
sweet stuff
Additionally, while I love having decent N/A options, I don’t want to just replace a cocktail with an NA drink, following the habit. I typically enjoy them occasionally, not every night with dinner like a glass of wine.
I’m also a VORACIOUS tea drinker this time of year. We’re talking at least 5-6 cups a day, maybe more. So tea and water are usually good for me. I’m treating it like a little special something I enjoy once in a while. And I like that habit.
