Letter 6: This broken world and venting session manners.
A weekly newsletter about how we show up in the world at work and beyond.
Reading: To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, Exit Interview by Kristi Coulter
Listening to: Lots of Roosevelt lately (who are also touring!)
Watching: Practical Magic. ‘tis the season.
Since I wrote about heavy mental health stuff last week I had big plans for this newsletter to be light! Funny!
Well, the world had other plans. So I’ll start there, and then lighten up for the good of all of us.
This broken world
For my own mental wellness I cannot write about Gaza or the Hamas or Palestine or Israel this week. At least not in detail.
I am Jewish.
I locked myself in my bathroom as a kid because I thought the Nazis are coming to get me.
I’ve sat with my grandmother as a child and read letters that came to her home about relatives who died in camps.
I am heartbroken and afraid for everyone right now who is being terrorized. For Israel, for Palestine. For innocent human lives being destroyed for no reason at all.
If you find yourself being confused about what’s actually going on “over there,” please join in and learn. It’s a lot and it’s confusing.
If you want to help or take action, learn how.
If you have Jewish friends, please reach out. Check in on them. We are not okay.
I hope to have more to write about this at some point, just not now.
On venting and asking permission to do so
You know what feels AMAZING sometimes?
A venting sesh.
Whether it’s about your boss or annoying coworker or a friend or a partner, you have stuff to get off your chest sometimes.
We all do! We need to vent and exorcize some demons!
So, you’re ready to go your bestie/coworker with your frustrations?!
Cool!
But do you know if they’re in a space to be able to hear you right now?
